Thank you everyone for making Record Store Day 2015 so amazing. It was our first year as an "official" participant and we didn't know what to expect but we were overwhelmed with the number of people who showed up. Tons of new faces but also many of our regulars and friends who have helped make Royal Cat Records such a fun place to be over the past year. Thank you all! We love you! And thanks for Chadillac for providing the soundtrack! What a day!
We received quite a few of the "hot" RSD releases and quickly sold out of many. These include the in-demand White Stripes "Get Behind Me Satan" and a few others. But we do have some remaining titles that you may be looking for, so here's a list, starting off with some highlights:
Procol Harum - Homburg EP (7")
A strictly limited edition issue of this rare 1968 7" Mono EP, originally released only in the Far East. Four tracks gloriously remastered in mono. From Cherry Red Records in the UK.
The Humans Soundtrack, Volume II
Mysterious garage record that serves as a soundtrack for the world's most badass comic book series, The Humans, about a monkey motorcycle gang in the 1970s, by the same people who brought you “Henry And Glenn”. The track is pure lo-fi garage rock with the lyrics telling the tale of a soldier being held as a POW during the Vietnam War and everything that they were forced to go through. Metallica, "No Life Till Leather" cassette
Metallica earned their first accolades with this seven-track cassette when it arrived in the summer of 1982. At the time, the group consisted of vocalist-guitarist James Hetfield, lead guitarist Dave Mustaine (later of Megadeth), bassist Ron McGovney and drummer Ulrich, who was only 18 at the time, playing bloodthirsty thrash riffs on songs like "Jump in the Fire," "Seek & Destroy" and "Metal Militia." Only one of the tape's tracks, "The Mechanix," would not appear on the band's debut LP, Kill 'Em All, the following year.
David Bowie/Tom Verlaine, "Kingdom Come" 7"
A-"Side Kingdom Come" by Tom Verlaine (1979) Produced by Michael Ewasko and Tom Verlaine AA-Side "Kingdom Come" by David Bowie (1980) Produced by David Bowie and Tony Visconti. Limited edition white/clear vinyl 'Side By Side' 7" 'Kingdom Come'. One side features the original Tom Verlaine version of the track and the other has Bowie's rendition from the album 'Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)'. "Kingdom Come" was first released by ex-Television frontman Tom Verlaine on his eponymous solo album in 1979, a year later Bowie covered the song for inclusion on the album 'Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)', Bowie wanted to know how the song would sound in the style of Ronnie Spector thus giving us this very unusual performance. This 'Side By Side' release is issued in a clear stickered sleeve on white/clear vinyl.
Death Cab for Cutie / Freedy Johnston "Bad Reputation" split-7"
New York City-based singer-songwriter Freedy Johnston had a few minor hits in the ‘90s and gets the fancy Record Store Day treatment thanks to Death Cab For Cutie. The Splendour bound crew have covered Johnston’s ‘Bad Reputation’ and pressed it up on a 7” that’s baby blue with coke bottle green splatter. You can even hear Johnston’s original version on the b-side.
